Clijsters insisted to the U.S. Open

Single defending champion United States women's grand slam (U.S.) Open Kim Clijsters, unable to defend his title at risk. Former Belgian tennis queen had suffered a left hip injury in Montreal Open quarter-final match which took place yesterday (21 / 8) pm. Clijsters had to impose to keep playing but eventually subdued by Vera Zvonareva with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 2-6.

In the match, Clijsters really played well and could easily win the first set. However, injuries that happen to him in the second set makes the game decreases and Zvonareva Clijsters to play freely and take the victory in the next nine games in a row. Zvonareva won second victory over Clijsters in their last seven meetings.

According to him, he will not give up so easily with an injury if his physical condition is still allowed to compete. "I do not like giving up. I'm still moving and hitting the ball so I'm not going to pull away just like that," said Clijsters. "I do not blame the injury for the defeat. I have also never lost to Zvonareva at Wimbledon just in time my condition fit," he told Reuters.

Clijsters immediately conduct an MRI examination of the injury was to ensure the opportunity to play at the U.S. Open. 27-year-old tennis player insisted he continued to play at Flushing Meadows, New York (the arena of the U.S. Open), to defend the title.

"Do not worry, there's no doubt in my mind (to play at the U.S. Open). Maybe later I have to wear bandage but that does not mean you can not compete. Many other players who already use it and keep playing," said Clijsters stuck optimism.

If Clijsters still intend to play at the U.S. Open despite injury, world number one WTA (Women's Tennis Association), Serena Williams, is sure not going to follow the tournament. Serena, who was three times U.S. Open champion, withdrew because of injury to his leg sliced by broken glass in a restaurant last July and since then has never competed in the field.

"I feel frustrated and very sad that I could not join the U.S. Open. Doctor banned for the match until the wound on my foot really well," said Serena in the tournament's official website usopen.org.

In addition to Serena, Belgian tennis player, Justine Henin, also appeared in doubt for U.S. Open after saying his physical condition is not fit to compete. With these conditions, the competition at a grand slam final that year will be more open to other players including Serena's sister Venus Williams, who is now ranked fifth. He became the only U.S. tennis player in the tournament entering the ranks of the top 40 list.
